For Adam it all started at Ogilvy and Mather, London back in 1999. A chance opportunity to learn from the best and on some fabulous brands at the largest B2B agency in the country, Ogilvy Primary Contact.
A Masters in Marketing later and a move client-side, to Durham University where Adam spent 16 years, eight as Director of Marketing and Communications.
When Adam joined Durham in 2003 they had a team of eight. By 2019, a fully integrated marketing and communications team of 60, a clear brand proposition, overseen by a marketing system of our own design.
All helping to support a world top 100 ranked university with all the tools to become a global brand powerhouse.
Now Adam is applying that knowledge and experience to build marketing functions and systems that genuinely deliver.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Adam is not your average marketer. He started his career as a B2B marketing specialist in 2000, trained as a graduate in the fundamentals of marketing and brand development and deployment at Ogilvy and Mather.
It was at Ogilvy that his fascination with the challenges of building effective marketing infrastructure began; how to create the right marketing inputs (the teams and underpinning systems) needed to generate effective outputs.
He moved back north in 2003 where he worked at Robson Brown Advertising, working on major accounts across B2B and consumer brands and studied part time for his Masters in Marketing.
Mid-way through is masters Adam secured the role at Durham University with a brief to build a new marketing function and consolidate a global brand. Starting with a team of eight, he built the marketing system from the ground up adding new people with new expertise as he went. Leaving, as Durham's Director of Marketing and Communications in November 2019, a 60 strong team of marketers working towards a clear strategy, underpinned by a new brand positioning and management framework and a bespoke marketing system fit for a global brand.
In 2020 Adam set up Genuine Branding, a marketing consultancy with one clear goal - to improve marketing performance through effective
marketing infrastructure.
